Google is splitting Google+ apart, breaking the social network’s photo element away from what it’s now calling “Streams.” Bradley Horowitz, a longtime Google VP of product, announced that he had become the new lead for both new products, Google Photos and Streams, in a post on Google+ today.

Facebook is changing the way it counts Likes, the company announced on Thursday. Don’t panic, though; the changes only apply to celebrity and business pages. Facebook will no longer factor in Likes from users who have voluntarily deactivated their accounts or users who have passed away, according to a blog post.

Swarm Launches Direct Messaging, Ditches Awkward Public Plans

Swarm has today launched private messaging within its location-based social network, ditching options to hop out of the app for a call, text message or a Facebook message. With this update also comes the elimination of the Plans tab, where users would be able to post ideas (let’s get a beer) to their friends publicly.

Facebook Finally Opens Its Data Firehose to Select Advertisers
