Waitrose, Starbucks and Cadbury Among First Advertisers on Instagram

Starbucks, Cadbury, Channel 4, Rimmel, Estee Lauder and Waitrose are the first brands to sign up to Instagram’s new ad service, which became live on Tuesday. Instagram, the photo-sharing app that was acquired by Facebook in 2012, has partnered with Omnicom Media Group. Sponsored photos and videos now appear in the app’s main feed, identified with a sponsored label – but otherwise similar to other photos and videos users see in their feed.

You Can Now Add Items to Your Amazon Wish List With a Tweet

Twitter just became an excellent way to manage your holiday wish list. Amazon revealed a new shopping hashtag Wednesday that allows shoppers to automatically add items to their wish list with a tweet. After sending a tweet containing the #AmazonWishList hashtag and a link to the item (or replying to a tweet containing an Amazon link), the MyAmazon Twitter account should reply with the status of the item, including when it gets added to your list, if it’s out of stock and how you can buy it.

Top Social Sharing Channels, Millennials vs. General Population

September 25, 2014

Facebook leads among Millennials (18-34) and the general population, representing 55% of content shared to social channels by the former and 70% by the latter, per ShareThis’ study. Twitter and Pinterest are on equal footing among Millennials, each at 10% of sharing, although Twitter tops Pinterest in sharing activity for the general population. Of note, Millennials show an above-average likelihood to share content via email.

What’s Up With Ello, the Anti-Facebook Social Network?

By now, you’ve probably heard something about Ello, the ad-free, invite-only, independent social network that has seemingly gone viral over the last week. The ad-free social network has quickly — and somewhat inexplicably — gained a reputation for being the “anti-Facebook.” Which is odd, because new users tend to boast on Facebook about having scored an invite to the service.
