Back in May, Pinterest started working with a small group of advertisers to test Promoted Pins in the U.S. Their plan now is to make Promoted Pins more relevant to Pinners, and help advertisers understand how their ads impact their business. On October 19, 2014, Pinterest will be making a few updates to our Privacy Policy to explain those plans.

Signing Up for Gmail No Longer Requires a Google+ Account

Earlier this month, Google stopped forcing Gmail users to create a Google+ account upon sign up. Google+ is considered the second largest social networking website after Facebook. The growth of Google+ was largely attributed to its requirement for using another Google-owned service like Gmail or YouTube’s comments section.

Ello Cofounder Doesn’t Think Facebook Is a Social Network

Ello, the independent, invitation-only and ad-free social network that went viral almost overnight, is often compared to Facebook. Indeed, the still-nascent social network has already gained a reputation as the “anti-Facebook.” But Ello cofounder Paul Budnitz doesn’t put much stock in those comparisons — in part because he thinks Facebook’s users have become so commoditized that the platform stopped being a true social network long ago.

Facebook Relaunches Atlas For Marketers To Serve Targeted Ads Across Multiple Devices

Facebook already uses your personal information to show you contextual ads on your News Feed, but now they are able to utilize the same data on behalf of third-party apps and websites. Microsoft gained ownership of Atlas in 2007 and then sold it to Facebook for a rumored $100 million. Today Facebook announced that it relaunched Atlas, which will enable marketers to target ads across multiple devices.

Twitter Engagement Rates: Which Post Times Are Best?

What’s the best time of day, day of the week, and month of the year to tweet? ExactTarget has some answers in a new report based off more than 3.6 million tweets sent through its platform by companies in 15 industries. The analysis looks at post engagement rates (organic and paid) in the aggregate and across various industries, arriving at some interesting conclusions.

LinkedIn Continues Mobile Push With SlideShare for iOS

LinkedIn has added another standalone app to its growing mobile portfolio. The company rolled out an iPhone version of SlideShare, the presentation-sharing platform acquired by LinkedIn in 2012. SlideShare’s iOS app was built completely with Swift, the programming language Apple introduced at this year’s WWDC — a first for the company.
